Samantha Pickett (she/her) is from Kitchener, Ontario and holds a Masters of Opera and Voice from McGill University (Montreal, QC), where she studied with Professor Sanford Sylvan. Samantha is an alumna of Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, ON), where she earned a Bachelor’s of Voice Performance (2012) and Opera Diploma (2013), studying with Kimberly Barber. Samantha was a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio from 2016-2018.
Since age seven she has performed a variety of repertoire, including choral, musical theatre, operetta and opera with companies across Canada. Highlights include Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas and Chorus in Louis Riel and Tosca (Canadian Opera Company), Anna in Crush and Chorus in Messiah (Against the Grain Theatre), Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi and Elle in La voix humaine (Opera McGill).
Samantha is a recipient of a Joseph Armand Bombardier Master’s CGS Grant, courtesy of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. She has a special interest in story-telling, comedy and mixed-media interpretation. As a teacher of music, Samantha aims to let the goals and dreams of the student be the compass that guides the lessons. She is comfortable in all levels and styles of vocal journeys, and also specializes in speech coaching, including folks Trans and NB folks! Samantha is a grade 7/8 teacher at Erin Public School. She currently lives in Guelph with her husband and their two cats.
